Schmancy
Soon Schmancy will be getting a new website! I am so excited. It will also mean that this blog will move over to there and I will stop using blogger. I will leave this here as a point of reference (i did a lot of blogging here over the years) and will continue to blog...just on my new site. I will let you know when the switch over will happen but in the meantime, check out these awesome margarita key chain's coming soon to Schmancy by Yummy Pancake. It looks like these will be exclusive to my shop. I will be putting them on the site as well if you wanna get your hands on one!

A new project
Today and tomorrow I will be in a photo shoot for my new book/kit with Barnes &Noble. It will resemble this only different :)
I figured I would highlight the contributors today and tomorrow. You are all familiar with the lovely Denise of Yummy Pancake. She is always so pleasant to work with! I just love her.
I have also had the pleasure of working with some people I don't know as well such as Honeybee69
If you are unfamiliar with Elisha Copeland's work you must check it out now. Everything she makes is adorable!
Another one you should be very familiar with is Alicia of Eternal Sunshine. She just went through major surgery right before Christmas and is already back to updating her Etsy shop!
I hope this photo shoot goes well. I have done one before so I know what to expect but it's always scary no matter what.

Yummy Pancake Interview
Next Wednesday is the release of the newest Schmancy Plush Exclusive brought to you by Yummy Pancake. I did a little interview with her and here it is.
S- Have any new year's resolutions you would like to share?
YP- Yeah, pretty much your typical resolutions - I'd like to try and eat a little healthier, and be a bit more organized, especially in my little basement studio. My studio currently looks like a craft supply monster threw up in it.
YP- I love zombies, zombie movies, zombie videogames, anything zombie. I even joke that zombies live in the dark corners of the attic and basement of my house(it's really no joke!). I figured that if I made an awesome Zombee Toastee plush, it would appease the zombies that live in my basement and they just might be inclined to help me organize my studio down there. I also wanted to give each Zombee Toastee their own identity, so they are each named after friends of mine and come with little adoption certificates ^_^
YP- I have a lot of strange new ideas and characters that will be making an appearance this year, including some relatives of Mr. Toastee. I never knew he had such a big family!
S- From the beginning of your business, what is a favorite Yummy Pancake story you might like to share?
YP- At the very begining, when I started designing plush, I needed a name for my business that reflected both myself and my plush. Only one name popped in my head - Yummy Pancake. The name actually comes from a great memory from my childhood. My best friend Andrea and I used to make silly videos with my dad's video camera, and this one little video we made for yummy pancakes just sticks in my head because it was so hilarious and simple! I had a small vinyl Strawberry Shortcake character holding a stack of crepes (it was Crepe Suzette) that looked like pancakes. We filmed her and just said "Yummy Pancakes are so good, your friend's will want to drop by" and then poured a whole bucket of my vinyl figures on top of her. It's alot funnier when you see the video. If I am ever able to find it, I'll stick it on YouTube ^_^
YP- Yes! So far, I will be participating in OddMall in Cleveland, Ohio on May 8th. I'm really excited and nervous because it is my first really big show. I hope to do a couple more this year, but OddMall is the only one I have locked down so far. I hope that a lot of folks stop by and say hi!!

Yummy Pancake Interview

Yummy Pancake makes things that make me smile. I am so glad she is part of this year's show and always look forward to seeing what she comes up with next. Let's get to know her a little bit better.
S- When did you learn to crochet?
YP-I learned to crochet back in 1999 with the help of my mom and a coworker. Back then, I was just making blankets and scarves. Then, life happened and I stopped crocheting for awhile. I picked it back up in 2006 when I was first introduced to amigurumi and then started designing my own plushie patterns.

S- What was the first stuffed toy you made? Good experience or frustrating?
YP- When I was about 6, I made a little plush leopard out of some leopard print fabric my mom had left over from leopard halloween costume she made me. It was a great experience. I loved the satisfaction you feel when you make something yourself. My mom was a big influence, and I thank her for passing along the crafty gene to me ^_^ I spoke with her this morning and she still has the little leopard I made!!

S- How much time do you spend on marketing Yummy Pancake?
YP- As much as I can, but probably not as much as I should. I tweet, I have facebook fan pages, and I have 2 blogs - one for Yummy Pancake, and one about the adventures of Mr. Toastee. I'm so bad about keeping up with my blogs, and I really need to work on that. I'm also a member of the fabulous Etsy Plush Team and we do what we can to promote each other and the team as a whole with all of our fun projects and activities. I rely heavily on word of mouth ^_^
I also just reached one of my goals - 1000 sales on etsy! Woohoo! To celebrate that, I am giving away a Yummy Pancake tote bag filled with all sorts of goodies! The details are posted over on my blog.

S- Best sources for inspiration?
YP- Everything and Everyone. I could be eating a meal, looking down on my plate and think, 'Hmmm…that asparagus spear would make a great arm" and then come up with my next food hybrid monster. I could be at the little Amish roadside stand down the street getting some veggies and think "Wow…wouldn't that zucchini look cute with a face?". My friends, family and coworkers also help me come up with some really cool ideas, as my brain can only think of so many things. I feel that any inanimate object can be transformed into plush form, and I am willing to give any idea a try, no matter how odd. I love a challenge.

S- Where might people find you during the holiday season? (any craft shows?)
YP- Unfortunately, my work schedule did not allow me to travel and participate in all the craft shows that I would have liked to this year. I will only be able to be found on the interwebs at my etsy store, and at the Broad Street Bazaar - an great store filled with locally made handmade goodies in Lititz, PA. My goal for 2010 is to travel and do more craft shows. I really want to get out there meet some of the talented plush makers that I read about!

S- Favorite plush designers participating in Plush You?
YP- Well, my fellow Plush Teamers all hold a special place in my heart. I've already seen some of the goodies that they whipped up for Plush You and they are fabulous…especially Christina Ward's Russian Criminal Bear. I am also in awe of Moxie's needle felted creations…they just reek of awesomeness! I can't wait to see pictures of everyone's stuff! Next year, I'm hoping to make it to the west coast so I can see everything in person.

Feel like makin' plush
I just realized that perhaps there are folks out there that don't know how to make plushies, want to expand their skills and whatnot. So here are some kits that might be of interest to you!
If you have ever thought, geez I really wish I could crochet my own happy ice cream cone, well now is your chance.

For the little more skilled sewer this adorable Japanese anime rabbit pattern and kit would make a perfect addition!

Jenny Harada makes some awesome monsters and you can too!

Make sure you check in often with Moxie as she always has awesome kits sure to bring a smile to anyone you love.

I have recently been talking with Jamie from Mary Jane's Attic who has some fantastic kits for sale including this pom pom kit!

Lastly, I am going to order these awesome sock monkey kits for Schmancy soon!

Gay Pride
This weekend is the Gay Pride Parade in Seattle. In honor of the parade I thought I would do a post on rainbows. A few years back some of my dear friends went down to Portland to get officially married. It was one of the most special, emotional weddings I have attended. The judge was so nice and said it had been the most fun few weeks of her career. Hopefully one day the battle will be over.
Yummy Pancake is getting a lot of attention over here these days but I could not resist!

This guys rainbow eyes are pretty hypnotizing don't you think?

Rainbows and stars both seem to be popular tattoos. Now you can have two for the price of one! By Little Odd Forest

This is a cute crochet rainbow!

I really love this caterpillar

Jenny Harada is more or less amazing.

I heart Doma!

And I heart Peskimo

That's it folks. Have a colorful weekend!
