Tonight!

Pillows for the People

My friend and old old roommate in SF, Parisa, is a street vendor in NYC. That is one thing I would love to do for a summer. I actually considered it for a little while this year but one thing happened and then another and I nixed the idea. But man, reading her blog entries on the day in the life of a NYC street vendor makes me want to hop on a plane and sell sell sell!

Here she is.
And Parisa, I love that you are writing about this stuff!

More on this year's show

I cannot believe how close Plush You is. It's freaking me out...in a good way. Postcards are being printed, things are starting to fall into place and it's nice.

So again, Plush You starts in Seattle on Oct. 10th. The opening reception will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. If you are in the show, a crafter, a blogger, etc. PLEASE check in with us when you get here so you can wear a name tag. We want you to all mingle and meet and the best way is to wear one. It's too hectic and crazy for us to go around and introduce everyone so you'll have to be bold...I know it's hard for Seattle folks but I believe in you.

Please feel free to use the Plush You button for your own blogs and websites.

If you are interested in helping us set up the show the night before please let me know. I have often tried to get pizza (twice successfully) but I think with handling plush toys, well pizza is not a good idea. I will have drinks and whatnot. Last year there were so many helpers that it went by really fast and we didn't even have time to eat. I hope this is the case this year again.

We will also have a label making party on Oct. 5th. I bring the labels, the pens and stuff and we just write out labels. It's fun. Last year we went to Joe Bar so let's just do that again. I love that place :) Oct. 5th at 5:00pm.

Once the postcards arrive, anyone that might like to help spread the good word, please drop by and grab some to put at local coffee shops, etc. When you come by let me the neighborhood you want to tackle since we don't want all C. Hillers or whatnot. I will actually cover Capital Hill since that's my hood and I try hard to walk to work. This will force me to do so.

Lastly, I don't think we are going to do a workshop in Seattle because time is ticking and I just am running out of steam. There will be the big You Bazaar! in SF this November so I just can't do much more. We will have the big promotional table in Seattle so feel free to send business cards, postcards, buttons or any other promotional material. People LOVE this table!

That's all for now.

Buttons!!!

Not this next week but the following week I will be in Ohio for the week for a photo shoot for my next book on buttons. I will try to blog during that time and think I can but I might not be able to get to emails as much and whatnot.

But I love me some buttons! I just thought I would share a few with you.

My friend, Anna got me a few of these buttons awhile back. They are true beauties!

I love these embroidered buttons!

These make me want to hop in a car and go to the beach!

I really like these knitted buttons

Lastly, these buttons are very summery. I wish summer wasn't coming to an end!

Rakka Deer

I think I have already admitted one of my guilty pleasures, reading celebrity gossip. I am now a big fan of dlisted because the guy is hilarious! I read it more for his writing than I do for the actual content. Anywhooo he always talks about Britney Spears loving Cheetos. This card he would LOVE! Rakka Deer is putting a bunch of stuff on her etsy shop today including this.

These are a few of my favorite things

Here are some of my new favorites for the week.

Full of Fluff Interview

This will be the second year Carey Huffman of Full of Fluff has participated in Plush You! I LOVE her work! It's amazing, sells really quickly and each piece has tons of personality. This year's pieces are AMAZING!! I am so glad we finally were able to learn more about the woman behind this work. Enjoy!

S- First tell us a little bit about yourself and how you started Full of Fluff.

FoF- I started Full of Fluff a year or so back while I was working in my first job as a graphic designer right out of school. I needed more creative stimulation than what I was getting at work and I thought that blogging would force me to do more crafting and write about my work. I have always loved toys and I started making more and more just before starting the blog. Toys are fun and a great way to make art where the only standard is how warm the smile of the viewer is. I chose the name Full of Fluff because toys are literally filled with fluff and my intent is that the blog would always be light and fluffy no matter what I am making.

S- What is your favorite organizational tool?

FoF- Pegboard. I love that thing. I can quickly look at all my craft tools and find what I need. I like how there is no right and wrong place to put everything, most everything tends to go on the closest hook to my hand when I am working.

S- How much time do you get to dedicate to your crafts?

FoF- It never feels like enough but I am sure many would think of it as too much. I work a full-time job but most evenings and weekends I cram in some craft time. I also try to carry a small working project in my purse. It can be surprising when you have some unexpected down time where you can get some work done. I also come up with a lot of my ideas while in meetings.
